Making a Donation
Your donation will make a difference in the community.
By making a gift to the Health and Home Care Society of BC, you help seniors, caregivers and other people stay healthy and in the comfort of their own homes. As a result, you also help reduce demand on hospitals and care facilities.
You can ask us to use your gift where the need is greatest, or you can ask that your donation be used to:
- deliver Meals on Wheels and social contact to isolated Vancouver and Richmond residents;
- provide Chinese Meals on Wheels to members of the community who wish to receive authentic Asian cuisine delivered by Cantonese-speaking volunteers;
- supply the Family Respite Centre with equipment and furnishings to add to the homelike environment and enhance the recreational and therapeutic activities;
- subsidize professional services and equipment for the Community Integration Project to enable individuals with disabilities to achieve physical independence in the community.
The need for support services for seniors and caregivers is greater than ever:
- The number of people needing assistance with daily living will increase dramatically as the population ages.
- More than 152,000 people in BC are caring for a dependent spouse, parent or sibling.
- 99,000 households in BC are caring for an elderly or chronically ill loved one.
- One in eight of these caregivers say it is a major daily activity.
- Nearly one third will experience health problems themselves caused by the sometimes exhausting routine of looking after a dependent loved one.
- 44% tell us about the extra expenses that are linked to their caregiving.
