Wellness Screening Clinics
"The nurses provided by Care BC for our Heart Health Screening Clinic were fantastic. We have had a lot of really positive feedback about how friendly, approachable and helpful they were. Thank you". - Linda Roseborough, Health, Safety & Wellness Advisor, University of British Columbia
Wellness screening clinics are tailored to meet the needs of your company and employees. The Health and Home Care Society of BC supplies our Registered Nurses with all testing equipment and print materials for employees to take home, and will dispose of all contaminated supplies in a safe manner. These clinics involve one-on-one time with the nurse with the opportunity for questions.
Why choose Care BC over other screening clinic providers?
Our workplace wellness clinics can be designed to meet your unique needs, when and where you want. We come to your office at a time that is most convenient for you and your employees, and set up the clinic where you feel is most comfortable. We are also able to combine these clinics of your choice for a more in depth health check (for example, the body mass index and nutritional and physical activity clinics).
We are always open to new opportunities, so if your organization has a specific need that is not on the list below, Contact Us and we will tailor your personalized workshop.
Our Screening Clinics include:
-
Blood pressure: This test is crucial for determining if a person has hypertension (high blood pressure) which can lead to very serious health issues.
-
Total cholesterol: This screening test, done by taking a drop of blood from the employee’s finger tip, determines the total level of cholesterol, assessing the employee’s risk of heart disease and stroke.
-
Lipid panel: This test checks for HDL (high density lipoprotein), LDL (low density lipoprotein) and triglycerides. This panel again is done with just one drop of blood from the employee’s finger tip, and requires a 30 minute visit with the nurse.
-
Glucose: This test can determine if an employee is at risk for diabetes. It requires the employee to have fasted for two hours before the test, and is done by taking one drop of blood from the fingertip.
-
Body Mass Index (BMI): Calculating BMI requires your height and weight. A BMI outside the normal range of 20-25 would indicate that you are at an increased risk for health problems.
-
Waist measurement: Individuals who store fat around the abdomen, chest, and surrounding internal organs such as the heart, have a higher risk of diseases than individuals who store fat on the hips and thighs. The Registered Nurse measures the employee’s waist and compares it to British Columbia guidelines.
-
Nutritional and physical activity assessment: Many health issues can be attributed to poor diet and activity routines. Our Registered Nurse provides education on healthy living and how to adapt personal food choices and exercise habits to the employee’s individual lifestyle in a practical way.
- Follow up screenings: Research has shown that the best way to really change a risk factor is to enroll in a follow-up program. The best programs include contact with a health professional at 6 weeks, and 3, 6 and 9 months after the wellness screening clinic, all of which may take place via phone, email, or a visit with the employee's personal physician. These follow up clinics allow the employee to redo his or her tests and receive feedback on any changes.
The Registered Nurse gives each employee a health record card with his or her test results on it for their own personal records. We do not retain the results.
