Meals on Bikes Have Hit The Streets
The Health and Home Care Society of BC is delighted to have started a new initiative. We have introduced bicycle meal delivery on two of our routes! We decided to try this pilot project for a variety of reasons. As an organization we pride ourselves on evolving with the needs of our community. To better serve our local community, we implemented the Chinese Meals on Wheels program 11 years ago. To better serve our global community, we have implemented our Meals on Bikes program this year.
As the environment is of great worldwide concern, we have been thinking of ways to address this issue while still
providing our much needed services. By using bicycles instead of driving, we are reducing our gas emissions and as a result, reducing our environmental footprint.
Biking is also better for the health of our volunteers. We are promoting good health and good fitness by adding this as an option for our servers.
This method of delivery is also better for routes on which parking is difficult. For this reason, we started this pilot project in the West End. It is very difficult to navigate through that area as there are many one-way streets with little parking. It is much easier to find a place for your bike than your car!
This pilot project has proven so successful that we have expanded the initiative to other appropriate areas.
10 Years Of Chinese Meals On Wheels
The Health and Home Care Society of BC celebrates the 10th Anniversary of our Chinese Meals on Wheels program this year!
We launched one of the first Chinese Meals on Wheels programs in Canada on October 23, 1996. Today, our Chinese-speaking volunteers deliver more than 100 authentic Asian meals every weekday to people throughout Vancouver and Richmond. Jenny Kwan (MLA for Vancouver-Mt. Pleasant), who delivered our first-ever Chinese Meals on Wheels, thanked our volunteers and supporters at a recent 10th Anniversary Event
"Your program is one the most effective ways to maximize community spirit," Ms. Kwan said. "I am full of gratitude to have had the opportunity to deliver the first meal, and to be here today. I hope to be back celebrating with you in 10 years, and 10 years after that."
You Don't Want The Flu On Your Agenda
Protect your staff and clients by booking a Flu Immunization Clinic from the Health and Home Care Society of BC!
Every year, thousands of people and businesses suffer from absenteeism and lost productivity caused by the flu. Don't be one of them! Our registered nurses are available to deliver flu shots at workplaces, pharmacies and other venues throughout the province.
