Wellness Screening Clinics

Blood Pressure

This test is crucial for determining if a person has hypertension (high blood pressure) which can lead to very serious health issues.

Total Cholesterol

This screening test, done by taking a drop of blood from the employee’s finger tip, determines the total level of cholesterol, assessing the employee’s risk of heart disease and stroke.

Lipid Panel

This test checks for HDL (high density lipoprotein), LDL (low density lipoprotein) and triglycerides. This panel again is done with just one drop of blood from the employee’s finger tip, and requires a 30 minute visit with the nurse.

Glucose

This test can determine if an employee is at risk for diabetes. It requires the employee to have fasted for two hours before the test, and is done by taking one drop of blood from the fingertip.

Body Mass Index (BMI)

Calculating BMI requires your height and weight. A BMI outside the normal range of 20-25 would indicate that you are at an increased risk for health problems.

Waist Measurement

Individuals who store fat around the abdomen, chest, and surrounding internal organs such as the heart, have a higher risk of diseases than individuals who store fat on the hips and thighs. The Registered Nurse measures the employee’s waist and compares it to British Columbia guidelines.

Follow Up Screenings

Research has shown that the best way to really change a risk factor is to enroll in a follow-up program. The best programs include contact with a health professional at 6 weeks, and 3, 6 and 9 months after the wellness screening clinic, all of which may take place via phone, email, or a visit with the employee's personal physician. These follow up clinics allow the employee to redo his or her tests and receive feedback on any changes.

Wellness Workshops

Heart Health

Our Heart (Cardiovascular) Health workshop teaches people about heart disease, stroke and healthy lifestyles. Women and men have different risk factors for many diseases such as heart disease. This workshop allows people to start the process of assessing their risk of a heart attack or stroke and to learn how they can reduce their risk.

Diabetes Health

Our Diabetes Awareness workshop teaches your employees or clients how to recognize symptoms and determine if they, or someone they know, might be at risk, and what to do if the disease has already developed.

Caring for the Care Giver

This workshop is designed for people who care for a family member with a chronic illness on an on-going basis. It is about self care, what it includes, why it is important, why it is hard to do and how to start caring for you.

The Sandwich Generation

This workshop is designed for people who care for both children and parents, often called the sandwich generation. Topics discussed include the time this work takes, who is providing this care, when to ask for help, who can provide help, the costs and benefits to you of providing this care. Participants often share some of their personnel stories during this workshop.

Assess and Reduce Your Risk of Cardiovascular Disease

Women and men have different risk factors for many diseases such as heart disease. This workshop allows people to start the process of assessing their risk of a heart attack or stroke and to learn how they can reduce their risk.

Reduce Your Risk of Cancer

This workshop was designed to take into account the gender difference in these risks and to talk about what we know works and what we know does not.

Are You Ready to Move More?

Most Canadians do not get enough physical activity but physically activity is one of the few ways we can reduce our risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Using Canada’s Guide to Physical Activity we start the process of changing behaviour to become more active.

Healthy Eating

Using Canada’s Food Guide topics such as portion size, the challenges of losing weight, the joy of sharing food, eating to maintain and to improve health are discussed

Planning for End of Life Decisions

Death comes to us all but few people have discussed what treatment they want and when they want treatment to stop. This workshop works with less than 12 people as it is an intimate discussion.

Adult Immunization

During the workshop the registered nurse will review the current British Columbia guidelines for adult vaccinations. Information on which vaccines are provided by your tax dollars and which vaccines you have to purchase will be included. Questions about vaccines recommended for travelling to specific countries cannot be covered in this workshop.

Employee Safety - Risk of Anaphylaxis from Food Allergies

This workshop was developed for a daycare where a child carried an EPI-pen due to severe allergies to a specific food. The workshop allowed staff to discuss their concerns about the child having an anaphylaxis response to food and what their role would be.

If your company has a specify safety issue you would like address in a workshop then call our nurse manager to discuss us developing a workshop for you.

Custom-Tailored Workshops

Our workplace wellness workshops can be designed to meet your unique needs, when and where you want. If your organization has a specific need, we can tailor your personalized workshop to be run by one of our many Registered Nurses throughout the province.
