CARDIOVASCULAR (HEART) HEALTH CLINICS

Our Cardiovascular (Heart) Health Clinics teach people about heart disease, stroke and healthy lifestyles and also offer blood pressure and blood cholesterol testing. Clinics are delivered by our registered nurses in a relaxed, comfortable setting of your choosing.

Facts about blood pressure:

  • It is the pressure exerted by the blood against the walls of the arteries. Healthy blood pressure is necessary to keep blood moving through the blood vessels and to the cells of the body.
  • Hypertension or high blood pressure forces the heart to pump against increased resistance to get blood to the body.
  • Hypertension causes great stress on the heart and blood vessels. Over time, this directly increases the risk of heart disease, heart attacks and strokes.
  • High blood pressure often has no symptoms - the only way to know is to have it measured.

Facts about cholesterol level:

  • Cholesterol is an essential component of a healthy body but must be maintained below a certain level.
  • High blood cholesterol can cause coronary artery disease, which is a disease or obstruction of the arteries supplying the heart muscle.
  • High blood cholesterol level is a major risk factor for developing heart disease and stroke.
  • Most people are not aware they have elevated cholesterol levels until the day they suffer a heart attack or stroke.

This clinic includes:

  • Education and information: raising personal awareness of a healthy blood pressure and cholesterol level.
  • Blood pressure measurement, including an explanation of the results and how to keep your blood pressure healthy.
  • Cholesterol screening test, including an explanation of the results and how to keep your blood cholesterol healthy.
  • Informative heart health handouts: facts on current statistics, risk factors and healthy lifestyles.
  • Instruction on how to reduce risk factors for heart disease and stroke.
  • Heart Sense – people who are better-informed are the least likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke.
