I know there are people working in the community that will go into a private residence to administer medical attention but how do I access that information?
It depends on what type of medical attention is needed. What happens typically in BC, is that a case manager from the Community Care office in the person’s community does a home safety and care assessment to determine if home modifications or nursing care/support may be needed. Either the patient, a family member, or care provider can make this referral directly to the community care office. Unfortunately, the hours allotted for home care are sometimes less than what the person feels they need or want. At this point, people also sometimes look to private home care services which offer a variety of services from basic “companionship” to ongoing “nursing” care which are available at varying costs to the person.
