Government funded long-term care placement is typically utilized when the patient actually needs the service and are being transferred from another lesser level of care (home care) or hospitalization. These placements may also be dependent upon vacancies and thus planning in advance for the same is difficult, and may be particularly difficult with a request for two people.
If you are looking to pay for care, your options are greater as there are many privately-owned and operated facilities that may or may not have waiting lists. While your parents are still healthy may actually be a great time to visit some facilities with them and inquire about each. This may also provide some peace of mind for everyone in that when the time comes your parents will have had an active role in this decision making process. Good luck!
