I have been diagnosed with Shingles although I had the immunization a couple of months ago. I have been prescribed Valacyclovir. Is there anything I can do in our home or my workplace to make this not spread or to go away faster?
I am sorry to hear of your Shingles diagnosis. That can be a very challenging condition to deal with.
In answer to your question, shingles is only contagious to others if you have active and open lesions that could come in contact with others. If this is the case, it is important to keep lesions covered properly with absorbent (and leak-proof) adhesive dressings while using caution with any shared towels and linens to avoid infecting others.
Shingles and chickenpox are caused by the same virus (Herpes Zoster). You cannot catch shingles from someone else who has shingles BUT there is a small chance that a person with a shingles rash can spread the virus to another person who hasn’t had chickenpox and has not received the chickenpox vaccine.
