I've had a cough for 31 days; along the way I've had headaches, a runny nose and I'm coughing up a lot of mucous. I went to the doctor 2 weeks into this episode - the doctor checked my ears, nose throat, listened to my lungs, took oxygen levels and my temperature - all was clear. On day 31 I'm still coughing and have sore chest. Is this the flu that I have or a long, long bout of a bad cold?
It is sometimes very difficult to distinguish a cold from a flu or another respiratory infection. Because of the unusually long length of time you describe, I do suggest seeing your family physician again just to be sure there is not an infection of some sort going and/or for further recommendations specifically for your situation. Alberta Health Services has published a chart online to distinguish between the flu and a cold but it is really meant as a guide only. I wish you reclaimed health soon!
