Position Overview:
Care BC is seeking a dedicated and experienced Fund Development and Grant Specialist to join our team. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for driving fund development initiatives and managing grant writing efforts. This includes creating strategic communication plans, fostering key partnerships, and providing exceptional customer service. The Fund Development and Grant Specialist will play a vital role in advancing fundraising activities, coordinating events, and managing media relations to support Care BC’s three charitable programs: Meals on Wheels, Family Respite Centre, and Community Integration Project.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop long and short-term goals and objectives for the fundraising and grant program in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer in relation to the strategic plan.
2. Implement and evaluate long and short-term goals in consultation with other program managers and team members.
3. Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the fundraising and grant program.
4. Assess needs for fundraising activities by developing and maintaining an effective annual calendar and communication calendar.
5. Report on effectiveness of activities and programs. Apprise Chief Executive Officer of fundraising and grant program issues.
6. Conduct prospect research and event sponsorship solicitation.
7. Write compelling grant applications.
8. Create content for social media and other media tools to effectively communicate throughout the lower mainland or other geographic areas as required.
9. Monitor and provide input into annual operating budget for fundraising and grant program. Monitor revenues, expenditures, identify problem areas and opportunities, justify variances; propose, implement and evaluate corrective action as required.
10. Develop and maintain an ongoing system of continuous quality improvement, including methods for monitoring and follow up on program issues and concerns.
11. Represent the organization for all fundraising events and foster positive relations in the community by establishing and maintaining ongoing contact with individual service providers, community agencies and health authorities.
12. Build rapport with staff, colleagues and volunteers to create a high level of trust and support in order to develop relationships that facilitate effective communication.
13. Performs other related duties as required and appropriate.
Required Qualifications:
• Completion of a post-secondary degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or equivalent and/or diploma/certificate.
• Previous experience with not-for-profit organizations and/or fundraising.
• Proven campaign/ event planning experience.
• Ability to secure funding opportunities through grant writing
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated analytical skills and accuracy.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to set priorities and handle a number of projects simultaneously under pressure.
• Ability to facilitate, coordinate, network and organize projects.
• Ability to manage project deadlines within budget guidelines.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Ability to deal with others effectively.
• Ability to take direction and supervision.
• Ability to operate related equipment.
• Advanced level of computer skills in Microsoft Suite (word, excel, power point, publisher, outlook).
• Criminal Record Check with clearance for vulnerable sector.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
