We are experiencing problems with our voicemail system; we can receive phone calls, but if we are on the line with another client you cannot leave a voicemail. Our voicemails are not working after office hours either. If you need to connect with someone about your Western Meals on Wheels meal delivery service, please try calling again when the line is free. Alternatively, you can e-mail email@example.com to reach our staff if you aren't able to speak with someone on the phone. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
We are disappointed to advise that on Monday November 19th 2018 at the District of North Vancouver Council meeting, the recommendation that the Official Community Plan and Rezoning Bylaw Amendments for the 600 West Queens Road Non-Market Rental Housing and Seniors Respite Care Facility be given second and third readings, was defeated.
We are nevertheless encouraged by the support expressed to develop these services on the North Shore and we will consider what we can do to continue with the project.
More information can be found via local media outlets - the North Shore News, CBC British Columbia, and Daily Hive Vancouver.
Thank you to the Vancouver Chinatown Lioness Club for hosting the fundraising dinner over the weekend (Nov. 11). We truly appreciate your support!
We have an urgent need for Chinese-speaking Meals on Wheels volunteers to help deliver meals to isolated seniors in your community across Vancouver and Richmond. If you are available weekdays from 10 am – 1 pm, please give us a call. Volunteers do not need a car - you can be paired with a driver - and we can accommodate flexible schedules if you aren't available every day. If you've thought about volunteering before, please give us a call to learn more （604）733-9177 ext. 107.
We have some sad news to share - Bill E., a dedicated Meals on Wheels volunteer since 1990, has died at age 91. He will be missed by the Care BC staff, the many volunteers he interacted with, and the clients he served.
Our latest newsletter is now available online, including an article about our Community Integration Project. Each edition of the newsletter also recognizes the latest members of our Macaulay Club - organizations who have made a donation of $500 or more to our charitable programs. Thank you for your ongoing support!
We're in the process of refreshing our Western and Chinese Meals on Wheels menus. There is no change to the cost of the meals. To make changes to your delivery schedule based on the new menu, call (604) 733-6615 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. If we do not hear from you, we will continue your current customized delivery schedule as usual.
Care BC is excited about the Province of British Columbia's commitment to expanding respite care and adult day programs. The families who access services at our Family Respite Centre tell us that temporary respite care helps them avoid burnout. When caregivers get the breaks they need, they can look after their loved ones in the comfort of their own homes for a longer period of time. We look forward to learning more the details about this expansion in the near future.
Earlier this year Ralph Sultan, MLA West Vancouver-Capilano addressed the Legislature about the growing need for Respite Care, and specifically mentioned Care BC’s proposed future plans to develop a second Family Respite Centre on the North Shore. Thanks for recognizing Care BC as a leader in providing short-term care for seniors and their families and raising awareness about the need for more respite centres in B.C. Thank you EVERYONE who helped make our Meals on Wheels 50th Anniversary Dinner & Dance Fundraiser a success! The event (at the Westin Bayshore with MC Fred Lee and entertainment from The Fab Fourever) raised over $200,000!
Fraud Alert: Please be advised, we received a report that a person approached a Meals on Wheels client wanting to collect payment on an outstanding invoice. Care BC DOES NOT collect Meals on Wheels payments at clients' homes. Our volunteers (for their own safety) are NOT ALLOWED to accept payments. Invoices can be paid at our office, by phone or by mail. If anyone approaches you at your home for bill payment, call 9-1-1. Please also inform our offices of any suspicious behaviour.
