Meals on Wheels Update

Western and North Shore Meals on Wheels will be changing its meal provider to Blue Ivy House, effective Monday, June 1, 2026. This decision follows careful planning to ensure you continue receiving safe, nutritious, and reliable meals.

What’s Changing:

  • Menus: Our menu offerings will be updated to provide a refreshed selection of meals. Clients are advised to review our new menus and inform us of any order changes before June 1st. The new menus are included with this memo and are available on our website.
  • Frozen Breakfasts: We will no longer be offering the daily rotating Frozen Breakfasts. Two of our Frozen Breakfasts will be offered exclusively on our Additional Frozen Entrée Menu as Frozen #9 (Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, and Sausage) and Frozen #10 (Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, and Hash Browns).
  • Desserts: We will no longer be offering desserts with our hot meals. Clients will receive a larger soup portion instead. This change follows careful consideration, allowing us to focus on our goal of providing high quality, nutritious meals for our clients.
  • Sandwich Packs: Soup will now be provided with all sandwich packs instead of fruit.
  • Cancellation Policy: We continue to require one full business day’s notice for all order cancellations, changes, or additions, with all requests submitted by 11:00am on the business day prior to delivery

  • Delivery times: There will be no change to our delivery hours. Meals will continue to be delivered between 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM.

Minister of Health Tours North Shore Family Respite Centre

On March 17, 2026, Minister of Health, Josie Osborne toured the North Shore Family Respite Centre. She was accompanied by Doug Purdie, President and Chair of the Board of Care BC and Sylvia Ceacero, CEO of Care BC.

The visit was highlighted by a conversation regarding the overnight respite program that Care BC will deliver from this state-of-the-art facility that comprises 18 units. The Overnight Respite Centre will provide caregivers the ability to leave their loved ones to the expert care of Care BC’s staff.

The leadership of Care BC and Vancouver Coastal Health, also in attendance at the tour, is working closely together to ensure sustainable operating funds are in place for many years to come. This partnership is supported by the generosity of donors who contributed to the capital campaign and the ongoing support of current and future donors. The Minister and Care BC look forward to many years of service to our North Shore community.

November 17, 2025 – Update on our programs and services

The Health and Home Care Society of British Columbia (Care BC) has an important update about two of our three Vancouver programs, as well as some exciting news about our future plans.

Since 1898, Health and Home Care Society of British Columbia (Care BC) has been dedicated to improving the health and well-being of British Columbians. We are proud of our 127-year history of compassionate community care and look forward to continuing to support seniors, family caregivers and those at risk of isolation.

Care BC launched respite care in Vancouver in 1994 and moved this operation to Fair Haven Homes Society’s (Fair Haven) site in southeast Vancouver in 2001 – a move for which we invested $500,000 to renovate and furnish our area of the facility. We provided overnight respite services and adult day programs supported through funding from Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). Recently, VCH decided to close the adult day program at this site and transfer the funding and operations of the overnight respite services to Fair Haven.

Although Care BC will no longer operate the aforementioned programs at this location, we are committed to ensuring clients continue to receive the care and support they need. We are working closely with VCH and Fair Haven to ensure a smooth transition, with the full transition targeted to be complete January 19, 2026.

Care BC’s other programs will continue to serve the community, including the Community Integration Program and Meals on Wheels, which serves Vancouver, Richmond and the North Shore.

At the same time, Care BC is excited to share that we are building a new facility on the North Shore with $12.1 million of private funding provided by generous donors. We will own this centre on land generously leased to us by the City of North Vancouver for 60 years, and we plan on providing 25 adult day spaces and 18 overnight respite beds, allowing us to expand our community care services for families across the region. We intend to transition nursing and care staff from Vancouver to our North Shore location. We will share more details about the project and timelines as our plans progress.

We want to express our heartfelt thanks to the clients and families who placed their trust in Care BC at our current location, as well as VCH for helping make our work possible. We look forward to continuing to serve the community through the programs noted above and our upcoming respite and adult day programs on the North Shore.

If you have any questions or need assistance during this transition, please contact me directly via email at [email protected] or by phone at 604-802-0588.

Thank you again for your trust and continued support. We look forward to continuing our journey with you.

Sincerely,

Sylvia Ceacero, MBA, MA, MCRM
