The Health and Home Care Society of BC (Care BC) is an independent, BC-based not-for-profit organization committed to providing high-quality healthcare services. Our mission is to promote health and deliver supportive care services to communities throughout British Columbia.
We operate a range of charitable programs, including Meals on Wheels, the Community Integration Project, and the Family Respite Centre in Vancouver, with plans for a new centre in the North Shore. Our dedicated staff and volunteers are essential to our success and the fulfillment of our mission.
We have wonderful caring staff that provides healthcare services to frail and vulnerable seniors in a homelike setting at the Family Respite Centre. We are looking for Casual Respite Assistants to join our team.
Position Overview:
Casual Respite Assistants are responsible to provide assistance to clients with activities of daily living and personal care. They also implement and participate in established activities of the therapeutic leisure and recreation program.
We are seeking unique individuals with community volunteer or work experience with seniors in adult day programs, independent and/or assisted living retirement communities. We have a very small casual list to ensure staff get as much work as they want; we have short shifts (4, 5, 5.5, 6.5 hours) and 7.5 hour shifts. Our programs are 7 days a week, with the Adult Day Program operating Monday to Friday.
As a casual, we ask you have a minimum availability of 2 shifts per week and either days/evenings, days/nights or evenings/nights – or if you wish all three shifts’ days/evening/nights.
If you can lead a group (in the Adult Day Program) with confidence and support the activities planned for the group this may be of interest to you. If you can also support our clients by providing personal care to 12 overnight individuals who are fragile seniors living at home and coming to the Family Respite Centre for short stays to give their loved ones respite, a casual position may be for you!
This opportunity may appeal to Health Care Aides who have experience in therapeutic activity programs - in working with seniors and activity workers.
Position Requirements and Qualifications:
We are located at 49th & Vivian in the Killarney area of Vancouver. We are on a direct bus line and in a neighbourhood with free street parking.

- Current and valid first aid, CPR and Food Safe Level 1 certificates
- Satisfactory criminal record check through the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General - Criminal Record Checks Program
- Recent satisfactory tuberculosis screening document and a doctor’s note indicating you are physically and mentally able to work with vulnerable seniors in a licensed care setting
- Current Registration as a BC Care Aide & Community Worker
