Meaningful Volunteer Opportunities in Vancouver and Richmond

The Health and Home Care Society of BC (Care BC) offers innovative and unique programs to support seniors, people living with disabilities or recovering from injuries and other homebound individuals at risk of isolation.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Care BC’s work and without the commitment and dedication of a caring team of volunteers, our vital programs would not be possible.

For as little as a few hours a week or month, you can help us make a real difference in your community!

Our volunteer application form is available online.

Meals on Wheels (MOW) Volunteers:

Volunteers provide isolated Vancouver and Richmond residents with hot meals, warm visits and informal checks on their safety every weekday through our two MOW programs - Western (WMOW) and Chinese (CMOW).

Meal Delivery Route Driver (WMOW and CMOW)
Route drivers pick up meals from a depot then deliver hot meals directly to clients, providing a friendly visit and informal check on their safety.
Shifts: Flexible; between 10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

Meal Delivery by Bike (WMOW and CMOW)
Bike volunteers pick up meals from a depot then deliver hot meals directly to clients, providing a friendly visit and informal check on their safety. We can offer support & advice for setting up your bike for deliveries.
Shifts: Flexible; between 10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Monday to Friday

Kitchen Meal Courier (WMOW and CMOW)
Kitchen meal couriers bring the meals in batches to various depots across Vancouver and Richmond; they also return the previous day’s empty meal bags back to the kitchen.
Shifts: Flexible; between 9:30-11 am OR 1-2pm Monday to Friday

Depot Support Worker (WMOW and CMOW) – no driving required
Depot Support workers assist with dispatching of meals and cleaning of meal bags at our depots.
Shifts: Flexible, between 9am-2pm.

We are always looking for spare drivers and servers! Do you work shifts or have a constantly changing schedule (due to shift-work, changing school schedules, etc.)? We are happy to work with volunteers who prefer to be available to work shifts as needed.

Volunteer as a team and have fun with your friend while helping deliver Meals on Wheels! It's a great way to keep in touch while making a difference in your community!

Meals on Bikes Volunteers:

As an organization we pride ourselves on evolving with the needs of our community. To better serve our local community, we have a Meals on Bikes program available to our volunteers.

By using bicycles instead of driving, we are reducing our gas emissions and as a result, reducing our environmental footprint. Biking is also better for the health of our volunteers. We are promoting good health and good fitness by adding this as an option for our servers.

Family Respite Centre (FRC) Volunteers:

Volunteers complement the role of staff, assisting with daily activities and enhancing the enjoyment of our elderly guests. Our Overnight Respite and Adult Day Programs support seniors with dementia, Alzheimer's disease and other health conditions.

Spend valuable time with clients assisting with recreational activities such as reading, reminiscing, games, music, exercises, crafts, gardening, etc.

Shifts: Flexible; 2 hours once per week between 10:00 am.-7:00 pm, 7 days a week.
