Chinese Meals on Wheel Program
Marketing Assistant – Volunteer Recruitment
Starting May 8th - full-time work (37.5 hours/week) up to 12 weeks (subject to funding confirmation from Service Canada – Canada Summer Jobs)
Great opportunity for youth pursuing a career in a community setting in a healthcare related field, e.g. health promotion, public health, nursing, nutrition, social work.
Every weekday between 60 and 70 Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver an average of 600 Chinese and Western meals over the lunch hour to frail, isolated homebound seniors, living in Vancouver and Richmond, who are unable to cook or shop for food. The volunteers also provide a safety check of the meal recipients and briefly socially interact with them (in either English, Cantonese or Mandarin). Without these dedicated volunteers, Care BC would not be able to offer this invaluable community service. The student will assist the Volunteer Program Manager and Chinese Program Consultant with tasks associated with the ongoing challenges of volunteer recruitment, orientation, scheduling and retention. The Meals on Wheels program has been increasing in size annually; both in demand and in need.
