Care BC's Western Meals on Wheels (WMOW) program delivers hot, nutritious meals to seniors, caregivers, individuals with chronic or acute medical conditions, and/or people recovering from surgery, illness or injury across Vancouver and Richmond. Meals are delivered by volunteers Monday to Friday between 11 am and 1pm - our volunteers also provide a brief and informal safety check on clients with each delivery. There is no meal service on Statutory holidays.

Guidelines

Client responsibilities:
  • Commit to a minimum order of five meals upon starting the program
  • Be home to receive your delivery between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. For the safety of the clients, volunteers cannot leave meals outside your door if you are not at home.
  • Give notice of intent to cancel a meal one business day before the delivery.
  • Clients are responsible for any meals that are not cancelled in sufficient time. If the client is away during the delivery window and we are unable to deliver, they will still be charged.

Payment Methods:
Invoices are mailed to clients or to a third party at the beginning of each month for the previous month's meals. You may submit payment for deliveries:
  • by Cheque (payable to "Health and Home Care Society of BC)
  • by Money order
  • by credit card (Visa or Mastercard)
  • In person at our office (exact payment only please - no change provided)
Please note - charges will appear on your credit card statement as "Health Home Care Soc BC” (not "Meals on Wheels").

Other notes:
  • If you plan to eat your Hot Meal later in the day, please put it in the refrigerator right away.
  • Our meal trays are now recyclable; you may dispose of them with your other household recycling.
  • Reheating - in a conventional oven at 350°F, or in a toaster oven at 325°F for 15-20 minutes; remove the cover before placing in the oven.
  • Reheating - in a microwave, remove top foil or pierce with a fork to prevent steam build-up; microwave on high for 2-3 minutes. Reheat frozen meals for 5-7 minutes on high.
  • Re-heating instructions are meant to be general guidelines only - actual reheating times may vary. It is better to underheat your meal than to overheat (as additional heating time can be added if required).
  • If frozen meal is thawed first, decrease time by at least half.
  • DO NOT re-freeze thawed meals.
