Helen was a dedicated and passionate supporter of Care BC dating back to when the organization was the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON), British Columbia. After Helen retired from her profession in 1990, she volunteered with our Meals on Wheels (MOW) program serving homebound seniors in need. Helen was also an ardent supporter of the Family Respite Centre (FRC), where seniors diagnosed with functional and cognitive limitations receive temporary nursing care and therapeutic recreational support, while their caregivers benefit from much needed breaks.
Helen’s annual contributions to Care BC helped to not only improve the experience of our FRC guests but to ensure the program would continue well into the future. Several years ago, Helen made a transformational legacy bequest to help fund a second respite centre, which is in the developmental phase on the North Shore of Vancouver.
We are humbled and honoured that 30 years ago, Care BC became a significant Charity of Choice for Helen who was committed to doing whatever she could to give back and make a real difference in the lives of seniors and their caregivers.
Helen, you will be forever in our thoughts and fond memories.
